2008 Customer of the Year Kimberly Royal August 13, 2008
This Rent to Own Video brought to you by APRO's RTOHQ.org

Kimberly Royal -- APRO's 2008 Customer of the year -- is a case manager at the Judge Dennis J. Boll Group and Shelter Home -- an "incarceration-to-home life" transition facility for local adolescents in the region -- where she has worked for the past 24 years.

Known as "Miss Kimmy" by the boys and girls with whom she works, Royal regularly leverages her positive relationship with Countryside Rentals to fill gaps in her budget and make life a little more tolerable at the shelter.

She began her relationship with rent-to-own around 30 years ago when she was forced into the role of single mother tasked with raising a four-year-old and an infant when her husband left town after taking all the furniture and destroying the refrigerator.

It was then a local church learned that Royal did not have enough food for her family at Christmas. The church gave her $100 worth of grocery items; It was a gesture she would never forget.

Since that time, Royal has set aside money from her own paycheck to provide for under privileged families during the holidays. Today she has recruited the support of four other families in the community who all contribute to a fund that makes Thanksgiving and Christmas meals happen for over 10 Lawrence County families each year.

A New Rent-to-Own Experience

by Neil Ferguson

Here’s the lowdown on APRO’s 2012 Convention and Trade Show, July 24-26 in Memphis. The RTO industry’s big event will offer many valuable experiences, including insights on how to turn your stores into “experiences”–the good kind for consumers

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
