Mike Hickey is an Aaron's franchisee and former vice president of management development for Aaron's Inc.

On Thursday Aaron Rents announced it is dedicating a day from its annual managers meeting to send some 2,000 managers, franchise owners, divisional vice presidents, corporate staff and vendors to tell the RTO story to Congress April 14.

In this exclusive APRO podcast, Hickey discusses both the historic legislative initiative -- which will be the largest ever gathering of RTO dealers on the Hill -- and his designs on an approval-pending outreach project to help restore the National Mall.

In any case, Hickey is determined Aaron's impact will be felt.

"Every time we have a national meeting, we want to do something to make that city a little better," Hickey said. "If the mall project is not approved we will do something else for the community, perhaps in inner-city schools. This is a tremendous opportunity for the industry."

Call Hickey at 678/402-3318 for more information.

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
