This Rent to Own Audio Podcast brought to you by APRO's RTOHQ.org

APRO Board member Dave Edwards is president and COO of SEI Aaron's, the largest Aaron's franchise in the country.

Edwards, who is also the president of the New York State Rental Dealers Association, recently took the helm as chairman of the APRO State Associations Committee, succeeding "Tiger" John Cleek after Cleek was elected APRO President this August.

Edwards is currently serving his second year on the APRO board and was in Austin this week for the APRO Board of Directors fall meeting.

In this exclusive podcast, Edwards explains his take on "putting a personal face on rent-to-own" through his work with the NYSRDA -- the first state association to promote and organize the "Computers For Kidz" program at a state level. The program has since been adopted as a national initiative by the APRO Board.

"What it really boils down to in our industry is the people that you have and the relationships you build with the customer," Edwards said. "The stock market may go up or down and it doesn't really affect us. What does affect us is the way you treat that customer when they walk through the door and making sure you treat them with a huge amount of respect."

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
