Rent-to-own News - Benefit Marketing Solutions rallies for "Sisters", Susan B. Komen Foundation

November 10, 2011

Benefit Marketing Solutions’ Norman, OK staff model their Sisters for A Cure shirts and check to Susan G. Komen.

For the fourth straight year Benefit Marketing Solutions’ co-workers kicked their support into full gear by working with Beth Durrett of Bestway to help raise over $1,800 for Susan G Komen and Sisters for a Cure Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk.

BMS’ donation exceeded all previous years.

BMS challenged its employees to raise money for the charity by creating perks for various levels of donations. Then, it matched the employees’ contributions.

The highest level of contribution enabled employees to throw a pie in the face of specific executives. This new twist added fun to the fund raising efforts.

Breast Cancer has impacted the lives of various BMS employees.  “It’s a great honor to be able to contribute to a cause that hits home,” says Lanai Williams, Assistant Vice President for BMS.  Williams lost her mother to breast cancer years ago.  She died after a two year battle with the disease when Lanai and her twin brother were only 3 years old.

Nicole Lutz, Marketing Assistant for BMS has also been touched by the disease.  “It’s awesome that there is such a dedication to the cause, because so many people here at BMS are affected.”  Lutz, whose aunt is a breast cancer survivor, is thankful that doctors caught the cancerous cells early enough to prevent the spreading of the disease.

“That’s why it’s so important to donate, even if it’s not much,” says Williams.  “My mother lost her battle, but technology and research have changed since then.  It could be the difference between early detection or not.  If everyone gives a little, it makes a real difference.”

“Breast cancer impacts the lives of so many people.  We are glad to do what we can to help Susan G Komen in partnership with Beth at Bestway,” said Susan Matthews, president of the BMS division of Access Plans, Inc.

by Neil Ferguson

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
