Rent-to-own News - Countryside named to Inc. Magazine Top 5000

October 26, 2011

Countryside Rent-2-Own President Mike Tissot.

Countryside Rentals (dba Rent-2-Own), a 28 store chain of rentals stores in Ohio and Kentucky, was recently recognized by Inc. Magazine in their annual ranking of the fastest growing companies in America.

This ranking is based on the three year revenue growth of the organization.

"When I send our information in a few months ago, I kind of forgot about it and then I received this notice a few weeks ago", comments Mike Tissot, Countryside president and current APRO Board member. "We are no software company, or government services company that grew thousands of percentage points in revenue, but we are a 26 year old company that keeps doing the right things in our stores for our customers."

Rent-2-Own ranked 3453 in the survey, posting a 51 percent growth rate over three years from $22.4 million in 2007 to $34 million in 2010. The company created 75 new jobs during that time period. See details and find complete list here.

Countryside was started in 1985 by Darrell Tissot in one of the same entrepreneurial stories you hear about risking it all on a crazy idea. Until his retirement in 1999, Darrell instituted a culture that treats customers and employees with great respect. That culture has provided a firm foundation for the now 28-store and 250-employee company to thrive.

In a tough economic climate, Rent-2-Own has carved out a reputable niche in the communities they serve. They have prided themselves on a passionate and caring customer service platform that fulfills the promise of all the components of a great rent to own transaction: easy payments, product guarantees, no hassle collections or credit checks and no fault returns.

"We are seeing new people in our stores every day and week now and we try to serve them all like they have been customers for years," Tissot said. "Some are unsure of rent to own at first, but when the compare all the services they get for our improved pricing, they realize we cannot be beat."

Rent-2-Own operates in southern Ohio and northern Kentucky and just opened their 27th and 28th stores in Mt Vernon, Ohio and Russell, KY respectively.

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
