Rent-to-own News - Childers expands rent-to-own services in Anchorage

September 26, 2011

Customers on the east side of Anchorage now have access to rent-to-own electronics, furniture, appliances, and other unique items right in their neighborhood thanks to Mark Childers, a franchisee who has been a part of the ColorTyme system for more than 25 years.

In addition to expanding services in the area, Childers also promoted former Store Manager Ryan Michaelsen to Regional Manager of Alaska.

“We have so many customers on the east side of town, so when the opportunity was presented to open a store in the area, I jumped on it,” said Childers. “Due to our recent growth, it made sense to add a Regional Manager who will be in charge of our four Alaskan stores. I have no doubt that Ryan is the best person for the job. He’s been with ColorTyme for nine years and has spent his career running the largest stores in every community that he has worked in.”

Not only does ColorTyme give customers a credit-free and affordable way to get new, name-brand products for their home, but it offers them several non-traditional rent-to-own items as well.

“Our stores are not limited to standard rent-to-own products. If a customer has a special item in mind, they can count on us to provide it,“ said Childers. “We’ve been known to get our customers anything from home furnishings to snow blowers, pizza ovens, commercial tire changing equipment, and even cars.”

With outstanding service, highly knowledgeable staff, and the ability to fulfill special orders and requests, the new Anchorage store will build upon the stellar reputation that Childers’ other ColorTyme locations are known for.

“We have the best selection, the best people and, of course, the best prices in rent-to-own,” Childers said. “Our customers know that we have a reputation of making things happen and that they will never have to wait for corporate approval. Since we are locally owned and operated, we have the authority to cater to customers’ needs and offer them exactly what they’re looking for at prices they deserve.”

Located at 3101 Penland Pkwy. in the Northway shopping mall, the new ColorTyme is planning a big event to celebrate its opening on the east side of town.

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
