Rent-to-own News - Premier Rental-Purchase teams with Dayton homeless service center

May 18, 2011

Premier owner Scott Kinnear with company VP Doug Higgins transporting plants to an area homeless shelter.

Premier Rental Purchase of Dayton is taking on homelessness by partnering with a progressive local agency that offers a spectrum of services to homeless men and women in the local area.

Premier recently sponsored Homefull's 2nd Annual Golf Outing at the Country Club of the North on May 16. Additionally, Premier is donating its delivery truck and two associates to transport plants from an Ohio Correction Facility to the Gateway Men's Shelter.

The goal of the effort is to help educate homeless men how to grow a garden to help feed themselves or provide them a way to earn money by selling fresh produce.

The Gettysburg Gateway Micro-Farm -- vacant land provided by the City of Dayton -- is located on the grounds of the new men’s Gateway shelter.

The Gettysburg Gateway Micro-Farm will generate transitional employment with paying jobs, productive skills, meaningful activity and self-esteem for the growing number of homeless adults currently residing in our community’s Gateway emergency shelter system.

The farm will produce permanent community-based employment opportunities post-shelter through relationships with local farmers and yield fresh, healthy, affordable locally grown produce to the local neighborhood and larger community where such products are in short supply

"That's the one thing that kind of drew me to them because they were more of a mission that is really trying to help people get their lives started and not just an overnight shelter," said Premier owner Scott Kinnear. "They are really trying to give people the skills to take care of themselves. We were happy to jump in and help and will probably do it again next year."

Premier Rental-Purchase provides flexible, cost-effective financing solutions for consumers looking to purchase home furnishing,  including computers, furniture, appliance and electronics. Premier has two convenient locations to serve you in Dayton: Dayton East at 3926 Linden Ave and Dayton West at 4589 Salem Ave.

Homefull works to end homelessness by providing housing, services, advocacy and education. They offer a comprehensive continuum of care and services, from homelessness prevention to permanent housing. They are part of a network of services in Montgomery County designed to help people help themselves. Learn more at www.homefull.org.

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
