Rent-to-own News - Texas RTO focus group tomorrow
TARA and APRO invite Texas rental dealers to watch firsthand two San Antonio RTO focus group sessions tomorrw at Galloway Research at 4751 Hamilton Wolfe Rd, San Antonio, TX 78229.
The focus groups -- led by Trenholm Research of Austin -- will gauge consumer beliefs about the rent to own transaction and help determine how best to reach the millions of non-renting Texans who fit the industry demographic.
The first focus group session begins at 6 p.m. and the second at 8 p.m. so plan to arrive at least 15 minutes in advance. Enter through the Consumer Opinion Center entrance on side of building and do not wear any company identifying clothing. Once in the building, dealers are asked not to mention they are with a rental company, but rather to say they are with APRO or TARA.
One session will be dedicated to surveying existing customers while the other will focus on potential customers. The groups are asked questions about their opinions of RTO, how and why they formed those opinions and, most importantly, what additional information they would need to consider RTO. Special consideration will be given to the impressions of Hispanic customers.
All Texas rental dealers are invited to attend, though only TARA members will be provided copies of the tailor-made marketing plan resulting from the study after its premier release at the APRO Convention in Little Rock in July.
Seating is limited so please reserve your place in advance. RSVP APRO Public Affairs Director Richard May at rmay@rtohq.org or call 800/204-2776 ext. 104 to attend.
Three similar studies are planned in coming months for Ohio, Florida and New York.
The results of these and potential customer studies over the past two years will be compiled into a specialized RTO Marketing Plan provided for free to those attending the APRO Convention in Little Rock July 11-14 and to those participating state associations.
The TARA focus group is part of APRO’s two-year campaign to help rent-to-own dealers tap into the 50 million customers who fit the rent-to-own demographic but who have never rented. For more information regarding the focus groups, contact Scott Pospisil at
scott@taraontheweb.com or 512/917-8550 or Richard May at RMay@RTOHQ.org or 800/204-2776 ext. 104.

A New Rent-to-Own Experience by Neil Ferguson Here’s the lowdown on APRO’s 2012 Convention and Trade Show, July 24-26 in Memphis. The RTO industry’s big event will offer many valuable experiences, including insights on how to turn your stores into “experiences”–the good kind for consumers
Who Is Your Competition? by Bill Keese In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.
A Review of Online Customer Complaints by Ed Winn III While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
Rent-to-Own Families, Part VIII by Kristen Card Our series of family-run rent-to-own businesses continues with profiles of the Homeiers in Kansas and two Texas-based sets of kindred colleagues, the Spangles and the Weisblatts.
Future issues of APRO's magazine will be available in this same new format. Click here to access past issues that are not yet archived in the new interface.
