Rent-to-own News - D&H Donates to Japanese disaster relief

March 17, 2011

Computer and consumer electronics distributor D&H Distributing announces it will donate 1% of its US and Canadian sales from products by Japanese-based vendors this Thursday and Friday (March 17 to 18) to The American Red Cross for relief efforts associated with the March 11 tsunami and earthquake.

The amount of this donation is estimated to reach tens of thousands of dollars, based on average sales.  Vendors include Brother, Buffalo, Canon, Casio, Epson, Fuji, JVC, Konica, Nikon, Nintendo, Olympus, Optoma, Panasonic, Ricoh, Sharp, Toshiba, Yamaha and more.

D&H has maintained close, often decades-long relationships with a roster of manufacturers headquartered in Japan, which has made both the executives and the staff very sensitive to the challenges faced by that country in the wake of these events.

D&H personnel also plan to devote the efforts of “D&H Cares,” the company’s employee-run charity foundation, to Japanese relief funds as a supplement to the distributor’s corporate contribution.

“We are dedicated to seeing the success of Japan as it rebuilds its homes and facilities.  Their contribution to the high-tech industries has been immeasurable,” said Dan Schwab, co-president at D&H Distributing.

Individuals who would like to donate to the American Red Cross can do so here.

As the nation’s leading technology distributor, D&H provides a wealth of resources to empower the RTO dealer and store owner, delivering a broad selection of categories, products and applications.

With an impressive 93-year history, the company prides itself on creating business partnerships with an astute focus on ease-of-doing-business, relationships, value, performance and service.  D&H ships out of five separate locations in North America, including its US headquarters in Harrisburg and its Canadian headquarters in Mississauga, Ontario.  Additional US warehouses are in Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL; and Fresno, CA. Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
