Rent-to-own News - Kinnear is Premier 2010 Rental Dealer of the Year

January 20, 2011

Premier's 2010 Rental Dealer of the year, Scott Kinnear.

Scott Kinnear, an 18-year RTO veteran, is the Premier Company's 2010 Rental Dealer of the Year. He was named last night at a special awards banquet that concludes Premier's annual convention in Chandler, Arizona this week.

Kinnear owns two Premier Rental Purchase stores, both in Dayton, Ohio. He is president of the Ohio Rental Dealers Association and is a past APRO board member.

"There are a lot of Premier dealers here and a lot of them are doing very well," Kinnear said. "So it was hard to tell how it would come out. It is an honor to be in such good company and an honor to be chosen by Premier and I appreciate all the hard work our associates have done for us this year and especially thank my wife (Nancy) and company vice president Doug Higgins, who manages the first store I opened."

Kinnear began his rent-to-own career as an account manager for Rainbow Rentals in 1993 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. He was encouraged by his manager to learn everything he could about the rent-to-own business. He took the advice to heart.

In 2004, Kinnear opened the first store in his Premier Rental-Purchase franchise in the Ohio town where he has spent most of his rent-to-own career, Dayton.  He opened his second store in 2008 across town.

In addition to his state association duties, Kinnear is an active participant in APRO's Annual Legislative Conference.

The annual award is based on store performance, involvement in state associations and within the Premier organization and dedication to training and education of associates

Kinnear has been married for 12 years. They have two children.

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
