Rent-to-own News - Jay Roberts leaves National TV Sales to begin consulting firm
Long-time National TV Sales & Rental VP of Operations Jay Roberts today, left the company to establish his own RTO consulting firm, J.B. Roberts & Associates. His first client? National TV Sales & Rental of course.
His entrepreneurial drive led him to found Texas TV Rentals in Texas City and purchase his first store. Over the next 10 years, he opened or purchased 6 additional stores. In 1998 he sold Texas TV Rentals and joined National TV Sales & Rentals of Missouri Inc. as the Director of Training and Development, and was later promoted to his last position with the company.
"I asked myself, 'what do all businesses committed to excellence posses?'," Roberts said. "They possess specialized knowledge skills and abilities and have an intimate knowledge of the inner workings of a rental company. But the truly successful companies also know how to apply those skills that knowledge and those abilities to ultimately make a profit in a highly competitive market. This is what I've been doing since day one."
He has developed and organized a rental training program over the years that covers virtually every aspect of rent to own operations from account management to multi-store operations. A program that is a compilation of lessons learned the hard way, and knowledge accumulated over decades, he says.
Roberts honed his consulting chops over the years through his many presentations designed specifically for rent to own dealers and employees for State Rental Dealer Associations from Texas to Tennessee and from Missouri to Ohio.
He has spoken at several seminars for APRO, the industry's national trade association and has published several articles for APRO, RTO Training and other rent to own publications.
"Jay's always loved training," said National TV Sales & Rental owner Kathy Windsor. "That's where his heart is and where he's the happiest. We wish him the best of luck."

A New Rent-to-Own Experience by Neil Ferguson Here’s the lowdown on APRO’s 2012 Convention and Trade Show, July 24-26 in Memphis. The RTO industry’s big event will offer many valuable experiences, including insights on how to turn your stores into “experiences”–the good kind for consumers
Who Is Your Competition? by Bill Keese In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.
A Review of Online Customer Complaints by Ed Winn III While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
Rent-to-Own Families, Part VIII by Kristen Card Our series of family-run rent-to-own businesses continues with profiles of the Homeiers in Kansas and two Texas-based sets of kindred colleagues, the Spangles and the Weisblatts.
