Rent King held its 14th annual company picnic Sunday, August 15th, at Fort De Soto Park in Tierra Verde, FL.

Owners Chris Kale, Larry Pividal and Paul Schaller hosted the event which included a catered barbecue lunch, a DJ, a scavenger hunt for children, free caricature drawings, raffle prizes, and the highly anticipated volleyball competition.  Over 175 employees attended with their families for a beautiful day at the beach.

“This is a day we look forward to all year,” says owner Larry Pividal.  “We consider ourselves one big family at Rent King.  We love getting everyone together to celebrate our hard work, to see how the kids are growing up, to relax and have fun together.  Our first picnic had 10 people – now we have almost 200 show up – and it really makes us proud to be working with such great people.  It’s one of my favorite days of the year.”

This year’s volleyball competition was won again by the Home Office team: Larry Pividal, Alexandra Pividal, Paul Schaller, Noah Schaller, Cole Schaller, Laura Trevino, Sharon Tomaszewski, Jeff Allen, and Chris Kale. There was also a special presentation made to Store Manager Devin Zenteno who was presented with a Cross Pen for 10 years of service.

Warehouse Manager Jeff Allen said out of the 12 picnics he has been to, this year’s was his favorite.  “A picnic at the beach was a great idea.  The weather, the food, seeing everyone together – it was a perfect day.”

Rent King owns and operates 19 stores in the state of Florida.

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
